World Aids Day 2010

The Statistics are Staggering.

The Numbers in Africa are devastating the population at all ages. But, it reaches much further than Africa.  AIDs effects all 4 corners of the World.

Current estimates for the World.
33.4 million people living with HIV worldwide
31.3 million adults
15.7 million women
2.1 million children under 15

AIDS is an important disease to combat for the betterment of the World Health.  AIDS was also important in bringing awareness to various hate crimes against those affected by this devastating disease.

In Canada we have a very strong combatant against such issues – Stephen Lewis. The Stephen Lewis Foundation is a staunch supporter and ally to the racial issues caused by individuals and groups alike the World over. Stephen Lewis recently appeared on the George Stroumboulopoulos show to provide a quick overview of this World Epidemic.  Wednesday, December 1, 2010 was World Aids Day.

In recognition of World Aids Day 2010, a local restaurant had allowed staff and/or customers to create hate jokes posted in public view.  I find hatred jokes to be a peculiarly odd method of bringing awareness to a campaign of this magnitude.  Further emphasising the continuing needs required by great people like Stephen Lewis to help educate those lacking the intellectual capacity to understand the social issues of any disease and it’s associated hate crimes.

Information through social networks and word-of-mouth can be used to caution anybody whom may come in contact with such establishments that have encouraged conflict and misinformation.

By donating to your local Disease center hopefully we can cure hate crime as well.
